Sideways (2004)
Sideways is a buddy movie/road trip movie. Like all buddy/road trip flicks, it needs a device, a gimmick, and the gimmick here is the week before a wedding, a tour of California’s wine country, and wine. Add to that the fact that the director’s last 2 films were Election (1999) and About Schmidt (2002) and you probably know whether or not you want to see it. If you’re undecided, let me decide for you: yes.
It has many elements of About Schmidt (slightly unlikable male characters on the road, nightmare inducing nudity) but also has many of the things that were missing from About Schmidt. It is funny as shit at times and almost too real much of the time.
And the soundtrack includes the only Pat Travers song I know.
