Monday, January 24th, 2005

Johnny Carson, the quick-witted “Tonight Show” host who became a national institution putting his viewers to bed for 30 years with a smooth nightcap of celebrity banter and heartland charm, died Sunday. He was 79.
…NBC said Carson died of emphysema – a respiratory disease that can be attributed to smoking – at his Malibu home.

Avenue D songs on Music (for Robots)

Friday, January 21st, 2005

Looks like Avenue D has a new CD in the works.
Forget what you know, because like any great band should, they’re totally evolving. “Totally In Love” takes the D into new territory, both in lyrical content and sonically too, where the music comes close to unbelievably catchy, with background vocals and production duties fulfilled by [...]

When Doctors Are Illegal, Only Criminals Will Have Doctors

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

Over the last year of hearing a nurse complain almost daily about the terrible level of incompetence, indifference, and utter lack of responsibility in hospitals, I have become a firm proponent of trial lawyers vs. negligent doctors and nurses because it seems that no matter what tragedy a doctor, nurse, or hospital causes, there is [...]

Apex to Support DivX

Tuesday, January 11th, 2005

Gizmodo points to an article saying that Apex will support DivX natively. I’ve been a fan of Apex’s dirt cheap DVD players not so much for the price but for the large number of formats it will play. The only thing that was missing was DivX support, so I’m looking forward to [...]

WOXY Is Still On the Air (News to Me)

Friday, January 7th, 2005

When the best freakin radio station in America, WOXY was bought and scheduled for silence last year, I stopped visiting the site in order to ease the pain. I just returned a couple days ago and discovered they’re still on the air but are an Internet-only station now. This is great news, WOXY [...]

Jackson Avenue House (finally) Claims a Life

Friday, January 7th, 2005

“The Jackson House”, “Jackson Ave”, “the best new unofficial music venue in Charlotte”… the house went by many names. No longer the mythical party setting it was a couple years ago, the house has been condemned for a while now but someone apparently got into it and died last night after a fire started. [...]

The Battle For OzzFest : Norf Cack Represent!

Friday, January 7th, 2005

The Battle For Ozzfest ends Monday and I am happy (and slightly surprised) to see that Cynder is one of the 2 bands to make it to the finals.
Cynder hails from the wonderful little town of Lexington, NC; the town that also produced Eric, some damn fine BBQ, and that’s about it.
The winner will be [...]

Yahoo! News – CNN Lets ‘Crossfire’ Host Carlson Go

Thursday, January 6th, 2005

“I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp,” [Jonathan] Klein [chief executive of CNN's U.S. network] told The Associated Press.
He said all of the cable networks, including CNN, have overdosed on programming devoted to arguing over issues. Klein said he wants more substantive programming that is still compelling.
“I doubt that when [...]
