Hearts In Atlantis (2001)
This Stephen King movie is a little more typical King than Stand By Me but there are plenty of similarities: the era, the cool best friend, the narration, the friend girl (wait, that was from It). Hearts In Atlantis is worth seeing. King always fleshes out his characters (often at the expensive of trees) and this movie focuses on characters more than crazy monsters or demons or some other crap and rises to the top of the heap of King films (along with the too few others that concentrate on characters more than creeps: Shawshank, Green Mile, Stand By Me).
