In The Bedroom (2001)
This movie was done very well. I don’t think I can complain about anything at all except that I just didn’t like it very much. It didn’t satisfy me. It left me wanting more but not in a “damn that’s a good burger” sort of way, more like a “what? is that it?!” sort of way. “Character-driven” movies seem to leave me like that more and more often these days. It is compounded when the characters are as real and unremarkable as the characters in In The Bedroom. The characters were real enough, the acting was good enough, the direction, the score, everything was great, except the total package. It seemed like it was made from a short story.
But with short stories, we have the next story to move on to. With movies, I prefer something more “novelic” in scope.
