When Doctors Are Illegal, Only Criminals Will Have Doctors
Over the last year of hearing a nurse complain almost daily about the terrible level of incompetence, indifference, and utter lack of responsibility in hospitals, I have become a firm proponent of trial lawyers vs. negligent doctors and nurses because it seems that no matter what tragedy a doctor, nurse, or hospital causes, there is no acknowledgment of the problem (and therefor no attempt to correct the problem or keep it from happening again) unless there is a lawsuit. And I don’t just mean mistakes that could potentially kill patients, I also mean mistakes that DID kill patients. The health care system is like the military when it comes to protecting their own and pretending everything is fine. Unless someone outside the system discovers a problem and brings the legal system in, the problems will happen over and over, until someone finally calls them on it. That “someone” seems to only be lawyers at this point because health care refuses to accept responsibility unless forced.
