Victim of Elizabethan Crime Spree
It wasn’t the same night as the 4 reports of someone rummaging through cars in Elizabeth mentioned at Under the Water Tower, but my car was left unlocked overnight in Elizabeth one night last week and, the next morning, my glove box was open, as was my driver’s door, and the couple dollars in change I had between my seats was gone. Not all, though, so apparently the inconsiderate thief was in a hurry.
Locking my door probably would have prevented this, but it didn’t stop my room mate’s iPod from being stolen in front of his place in Noda, much to the chagrin of his late driver’s side window.
What would have prevented the theft? I don’t know for sure, but am willing to bet a loud annoying car alarm would have prevented my $3 from being lifted. I don’t know if other cars in that lot were gone through, but if so, then the alarm would have done quite a bit of good.
I never have anything in my vehicle worth the price of a broken window, so I don’t really care to lock my doors. For those of you who do like to leave things in your vehicles, try to keep in mind that anyone who would break into your car for $3 or an iPod probably needs it more than you, so don’t let them know you have it. ![]()
