NoDa Film Festival Starts Today
The NoDa Film Festival starts today at the Neighborhood Theatre. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Great Asian Cinema“.
I won’t be able to make all of the movies (though I hate to miss great FREE movies I’ll never see on a big screen elsewhere) but I will definitely make it out Wednesday for Battle Royale, one of my favorite imported movies.
The festival kicks off today (Sunday, August 27, 2006) with Kung Fu 101:Come Drink With Me at 4pm then Jet Li in Fist of Legend at 6pm and Jackie Chan’s The Legend of the Drunken Master at 8pm.
Monday’s Modern Classics program is more of a feast for the senses than the sensei. The Scent of Green Papaya at 7pm and The Chunking Express at 9pm. If you want a great date movie, either of these will do.
Tuesday is Great Directors, celebrating Akira Kurosawa with Throne of Blood at 7pm and with Yasujiro Ozu with The Record of a Tenement Gentleman at 9pm.
Wednesday is the climax, at least for me. Action Extravaganza night has A Hero Never Dies at 7pm and the one I hope you all can make: Battle Royale at 9pm.
Remember, all of these movies are not only great, they are FREE. So you have no excuse.
Other than HBO’s season finales tonight.
For more information on all of these films, please visit the NoDa Film Festival site.
