at&t USBConnect Mercury 3G Modem Works in Windows 7

at&t’s Mercury USB 3G Modem will not work on Windows 7 RC1 using the software that installs from the USB drive but after the installation, you can hit Windows Update and there will be 2 Sierra Wireless driver updates that will solve the problem. After installing those and rebooting, I was able to use the at&t Communications Manager software with no problems but not the built-in Windows Wireless Connection Manager.

I was able to solve that by going into the properties of the 3G connection in the at&t software and finding the phone number it dials to connect (that “phone number” consists of a mix of symbols and numbers). Then I opened the properties of the 3G connection in the Windows wireless manager and pasted that “phone number” in. After that, I can connect without using the at&t software at all. I haven’t tried uninstalling the at&t software completely but I will after I return from next week’s roadtrip.
